In general: Yes Poland is a very safe country to travel. In last 15 years, since 2005, a lot of actions have been done to improve on tourist well-being and as well as our safety – residents.

Crime levels went noticebly down in recent years. As a result I am not affraid to leave my car on the street. As long as it is locked and nothing valuable is left inside on the sight it’s generally safe. But – to be clear – I am not leaving my credit cards or documents behind at all or visible to every passer by.

In Poland you have extremly little chances to:

• Be mugged (with a weapon) in a day or nighttime.
  Poland is not South Africa therefroe you can walk safely here.
• See your kids being kidnapped.
  Such things are really minor happenings and mostly between parents who are divorcing with huge arguments.
• Become victim of terrorist attack.
  Poland have not been target of terrorist attack in recent history. Of course such may happen and we can not rule them out.
• Witness a natural disaster.
  In spring time we have occasional floods but last years (2018-2020) are mostly dry. During winter it is harder and harder to witness snowfall. Especially heavy one. Still you should drive more carefully than is summer and have winter tires on.

Even when risk of all such events as mentioned above is very low you still need to have common sense and keep your normal behaviours and precautions.

Contrary to popular belief – at least I have heard it myself in England in 2004 (!) – there are no polar bears that are walking free on the streets and attacking people.

Is Poland dangerous for tourists?

No, it is not dangerous to travel to Poland. Poland is a safe and freindly country. Therefore US Bereau of Consular Affairs is rating Poland at level 1: Excercise normal precautions (where 4 means: do not travel).

People are willing to help you in most cases and many people in Poland, especially young, can speak English. More on languages we speak – here.

But mind that Poland is not a dream land: we do have crime – as every country in the world. Thing is: its levels are low. As everywhere, there are „hot tourist spots” where your chances for pickpocketing or scam are growing.

Is Poland safe to travel alone?

Yes, Poland is safe to travel alone. As mentioned above Polish society is helpful in most cases therefore rest assured. Yes, you should follow some basic rules. Especially one thing is different than in most western countries. Simply don’t manifest that you belong to LGBT. As LGBT societies are a new public enemy – as declared by „our” ruling PiS party.
